Anthony DeSimone (D-Dist. 5, Providence) was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives in November 2022. he was chosed as a Deputy Majority Leader in January 2025.
He is a member of the House Corporations Committee, the House Municipal Government and Housing Committee, and the House Special Legislation Committee.During the 2025 legislative session, Representative DeSimone introduced a new law that authorizes the Providence City Council to increase the veterans tax exemption.
The tax exemption, which had not risen for decades, will help provide considerable relief for Providence’s veterans.In 2024, he introduced a new law that allows municipalities, upon request by the taxpayer, to issue tax bills digitally or electronically. He sponsored another new law that entitles holders of a life estate to real property to use any veteran's tax exemptions available to them.
He also introduced legislation that would allow a deduction from federal adjusted gross income for interest payments on outstanding student loans. During his first legislative session in 2023, Representative DeSimone introduced a new law which requires the director of the Department of Health to develop information on best practices for the treatment of patients with sepsis and septic shock.
Each hospital and freestanding emergency-care facility is now required to implement procedures and policies in accordance with this information.
He also was the primary sponsor on a new law that helps align the state's transit goals for the future by providing that the Director of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation shall serve as the Chairperson of the Board of RIPTA.He is a lifelong resident of the Wanskuck section of Providence. Representative DeSimone is a graduate of St. Raphael's Academy in Pawtucket and he attended Rhode Island College.
He was born on March 26, 1990. He is the Senior Compliance Officer in the Providence Economic Development Office.
