Deepest Condolences on the Passing of Vincent D'adamo, Jr.

WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Vincent D’Adamo, Jr., the beloved husband of the late Bertha D’Adamo. Mr. D’Adamo, known to his family and many friends as “Vinny”, was born in Providence, the son of the late Vincenzo and Santina D’Adamo. Mr. D’Adamo grew up in the Charles Street neighborhood of Providence, where he lived above his father’s pharmacy with his brother, the late Robert D’Adamo, Sr., and his sister, the late Carmela Ciavetta; and

WHEREAS, Vincent D’Adamo, Jr., graduated from Hope High School where he played quarterback on the football team and was elected to serve as President of his class. He then attended and graduated from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island in 1953. Mr. D’Adamo served our nation with distinction in Germany as part of the United States Army Medical Corps during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Upon completing his military obligations, Mr. D’Adamo chose to follow in his father’s footsteps in the pharmaceutical profession, owning and operating the New Marieville Pharmacy on the corner of Mineral Spring Avenue and Charles Street in North Providence. Mr. D’Adamo was a beloved member of the community, who went above and beyond to serve his patrons and the community, from opening the pharmacy late at night to fill a much-needed prescription, or covering the cost of the medicine for someone who could not afford to pay; and

WHEREAS, Mr. D’Adamo was a hard-working man his entire life. Even after retirement, he had to remain busy and served in his later years as a doorkeeper for the Rhode Island State Senate. He also greatly enjoyed participating in community events, which included serving as the Grand Marshall of the North Providence Memorial Day parade, taking on the role of Columbus in the Federal Hill Columbus Day parade, and playing the accordion at the Senate’s annual St. Joseph’s Day celebration. Mr. D’Adamo was also a man of deep faith and a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church; and

WHEREAS, Vincent D’Adamo, Jr., met the love of his life, his wife Bertha, in high school and married her shortly thereafter. Together they raised two daughters, Julie and Sandra, in North Providence. Mr. D’Adamo was a devoted husband, father, brother, and son, and was a great friend to many. He was a kind, generous and loving man who will be sorely missed by all who knew him; and

WHEREAS, He leaves behind his children, Julie Persechino and her husband, Kenneth, and Sandra Bucci, as well as his grandchildren, Angelina Landi and her husband, Dave Landi, Jr., Santina Silva and her husband, Shawn Silva, and Frank Bucci, Jr., and his great-grandchildren David, Vincent, and Angelo Landi. He is also survived by his companion, Geraldine Kashmanian. Vincent D’Adamo, Jr., was predeceased by his wife, Bertha D’Adamo, his brother, Robert D’Adamo, Sr., and his sister, Carmela Ciavatta; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the D’Adamo Family on the passing of Mr. Vincent D’Adamo, Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to his children, Julie Persechino and Sandra Bucci.
